The effect of light availability on the N 2 -fixation activity of small partridge pea ( <i>Chamaecrista nictitans</i> L. Moench)
Bibliographic record
Abstract
While central to pine forest management in the southeastern United States, prescribed burning promotes nitrogen (N) loss, which may adversely affect these N-limited ecosystems. However, burning also promotes native herbaceous legume populations, including notably small partridge pea (SPP; Chamaecrista nictitans L. Moench), which may replace N via symbiotic N 2 -fixation. The objective of this greenhouse study was to assess the effect of light availability on SPP N 2 -fixation activity. SPP foliar biomass decreased while foliar %N increased with decreasing light such that the foliar N mass plant −1 did not differ significantly across light treatments. Estimates of the %N derived via N 2 -fixation were consistently high across the light gradient averaging 83.8 ± 2.9%. Consequently, estimates of the SPP foliar N mass plant −1 derived via N 2 -fixation did not vary significantly across light treatments. Field studies are warranted to assess the environmental controls and practical applications that may increase SPP N 2 -fixation in regularly burned forests.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
