Data-Driven Control of Unified Power Flow Controller for Voltage Stability Enhancement
Bibliographic record
Abstract
Voltage stability is a growing concern in power systems, especially with increasing load variability and network stress. This paper proposes a data-driven approach to control a Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) using a neural network trained on simulation data from the IEEE 14-bus system. The model learns to predict optimal UPFC control settings such as voltage support and shunt current. To improve resilience and scalability, we conduct a sensitivity analysis using permutation importance, which highlights the most influential features affecting voltage stability. These insights can guide feature selection when extending the approach to larger networks. Results show the model achieves high prediction accuracy and remains robust under load increases and line contingency. The method offers a lightweight, explainable alternative to conventional UPFC control strategies.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
