Abstract
abstract: From the information contained in 'Ware's Index', we know that the famous Roscommon codex, Leabhar Ua Maine (RIA MS D ii 1 [1225]), once contained a copy of Acallam na senórach 'The colloquy of the ancients', the premier medieval fíanaigecht tale. This is particularly significant as it seems probable that the Acallam was composed in the Augustinian house of canons in Roscommon town (not far from where Leabhar Ua Maine was written) and also because there is no surviving manuscript containing this extended narrative that pre-dates this vellum. Furthermore, a number of incidents in Acallam na senórach have an added significance in an Uí Maine context which might be important in better understanding some of the episodes detailed within the text.
