Abstract
Malgré les ressources fauniques apparemment inépuisables recensées dans les récits de voyage de la Nouvelle-France, les colons français des 17 e et 18 e siècle apportent ou importent au Canada des chevaux, des vaches, des cochons ou des chats européens. Quels rôles ces animaux jouent-ils dans le développement de la colonie et dans l’établissement d’une « Nouvelle-France » ? S’appuyant sur la correspondance des administrateurs coloniaux, les récits de voyage et les rapports archéozoologiques, cet article examine le rôle des animaux d’importation et montre comment ils s’inscrivent dans la recréation d’un environnement et d’une culture identifiables à la France.
