Abstract
L’article se propose de montrer comment les corpus asiatiques peuvent non seulement enrichir l’inventaire topique, mais contribuer à renouveler la réflexion théorique, à partir de l’exemple du topos « Une femme utilise un langage codé pour donner rendez-vous à son amant », présent dans le premier des Contes du vampire ( Vetālapañcaviṃśatikā ) insérés dans le grand recueil sanskrit composé au xi e siècle par Somadeva, le Kathāsaritsāgara ( Océan des rivières de contes ). Le motif se retrouve aussi bien chez Boccace et Lope de Vega que dans le monde chinois, dans Kunlun nu (« L’Esclave des Kunlun »), une célèbre « relation de cas extraordinaire » ( chuanqi ) attribuée à Pei Xing. L’éloignement des littératures concernées autant que la grande échelle de leur diffusion viennent troubler le fonctionnement classique de la reconnaissance topique, en posant toute une série de questions que l’on formulera sans prétendre y répondre de façon définitive : est-il possible d’ignorer les ancrages géographiques, culturels et linguistiques des topoï ; dans quelle mesure peut-on parler, par-delà le phénomène d’interculturalité, de topoi transculturels ?
