Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Study is a precursor to work. However, little attention has been given to examining how calling and meaningful work can be applied to study. The present study aimed to develop a measure of meaning in study to facilitate future research and to inform career counseling with students. An initial item pool was created based on interviews with seven university students and a review of relevant literatures and measures. Participants were 324 university students (Mage = 20.93, SDage = 2.16, 48.1% women, 43.3% White, 23.8% Black). The sample was randomly divided into two to run exploratory factor analyses and confirmatory factor analysis. An exploratory factor analysis yielded a three-factor model across 13 items, including Fulfillment, Self-Growth, and Critical Understanding. Confirmatory factor analysis provided support for this final model. Meaning in study was positively associated with meaning in life, life satisfaction, academic outcomes, and critical consciousness. Implications for practice and directions for future research are discussed.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
