Abstract
Abstract Discussions on the texture of written Ghanaian literature have significantly emphasised English literature, constructing an image of a monolingual literary space while furthering a divide between Europhone literatures as written and Afrophone literatures as oral. This paper explores the possible texture of a Ghanaian multilingual national literature from the perspective of the Ga language. Considering Ga as an ultraminor literature, it examines how Ga authors and readers attempt to rethink the nation multilingually by challenging a written monolingual national literary framing. The paper foregrounds multilingualism as a relational category dependent upon the shifting dynamics between languages and literatures. It argues that minority provides an effective position for Ga authors to create their own literary spaces without adapting to the major English space, which in turn, forces a multilingual reading of the entire literary network.
