Abstract
Cet article explore la manière dont les motifs de William Morris, figure majeure du mouvement Arts and Crafts, sont réinterprétés par des artistes contemporains britanniques et canadiens dans une perspective anti-impérialiste. Issus de références variées (celtiques, médiévales, persanes, etc.), ces motifs sont réutilisés au xxie siècle pour nourrir une démarche critique : loin d’être de simples reprises décoratives, ils deviennent le support de nouvelles réflexions sur le passé colonial du Royaume-Uni et sur la production artisanale. Les artistes étudiés s’approprient ainsi l’héritage morrissien en le confrontant à la remise en cause des récits dominants. La réutilisation des formes et des idées de Morris témoigne d’une volonté de penser le motif comme un vecteur d’engagement politique contemporain, faisant de l’héritage de cet artiste une référence toujours actuelle et en constante évolution.
