Abstract
Les Atikamekw Nehirowisiwok transmettent de génération en génération leurs récits de création, les kitci atisokan . Transcrits, ceux-ci trouvent de nouveaux lectorats, souvent universitaires, parfois grand public, mais aussi parmi les membres de la nation dont ils sont issus. Cet article s’intéresse à un cas particulier, celui du conteur Basile Awashish d’Opitciwan. Le Centre d’amitié autochtone de La Tuque a inclus des récits d’Awashish dans quelques fascicules au début des années 1980, participant ainsi à une réappropriation par les Atikamekw d’éléments de culture qui peuvent circuler tantôt entre nations autochtones, tantôt, en fragments, dans la culture coloniale. Parallèlement, une maison d’édition montréalaise publie en 1982, dans une logique de diffusion des cultures autochtones, une bande dessinée attribuée à Awashish sous le titre de Carcajou, le glouton fripon . Le travail de réappropriation des récits traditionnels prend ainsi différentes formes, réappropriation de récits colligés par les ethnologues et réappropriation de la langue coloniale comme espace de dissémination culturelle.
