Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The aim of the article is to analyze the role of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), known in Nunavut as Inuit Qaujimajatugangit (IQ), in decision-making processes concerning environmental protection and natural resource management in the Canadian Arctic. In the context of ongoing climate change and growing interest in the extractive industry, TEK is gaining importance as a cognitive system alternative to Western science, based on intergenerational knowledge transmission and local environmental observations. The article claims that TEK may play a key role in shaping environmental policies, especially amid the socio-political transformations of Nunavut. The study attempts to answer how TEK is applied in practice. The results indicate that IQ is not only a repository of ecological knowledge but also a tool of political agency for the Inuit in decision-making processes related to their territory.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
