Abstract
The Caribbean is a popular site for field research for colleges, universities, and scholars from outside of the region. Because of the history, geography and contemporary culture, the Caribbean is a salient place to study a wide range of topics, including contemporary global issues such as climate change and food security. This chapter is a report from the field about a Caribbeanbased field research station, which began as an archaeological field school that embraced community engaged archaeology and expanded to become a transdisciplinary research station that emphasizes collaborative research and education where people with different lived experiences and expertise work collaboratively across age and disciplines to address socioscientific issues. In particular we describe how secondary schools play a key role helping to document and preserve the cultural and natural heritage of Barbuda. We then summarize critical lessons learned in situating secondary students as the bridge between youth and elders, Barbudan, and international experts.
