Fully Soft-Switched Step-Up Bridgeless SEPIC PFC Converter With Simple Auxiliary Circuit

Abstract
This paper proposes a novel step-up Bridgeless (BL) SEPIC Power Factor Correction (PFC) converter which operates under Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM) which simplifies the control circuit and provides inherent PFC. Also, the main converter utilizes a single switch without elevating the switching rate. The simple auxiliary circuit provides soft switching condition for the main switch as well as an improvement in the overall gain. Zero-Voltage Switching (ZVS) and Zero-Current Switching (ZCS) turn-on and off are achieved for the main switch and the auxiliary switch, respectively. All diodes turn off under ZCS. Consequently, conduction and switching losses, along with the reverse recovery problem, are significantly reduced that enables an increased switching frequency of 100kHz along with an enhancement in the overall efficiency. A 500W, 400V experimental prototype is implemented and the reported full load theoretical and practical efficiencies are 96.81% and 96.5%, respectively. Moreover, a full load THD of 3.8% is achieved.
