Abstract

O presente estudo discorre sobre as relações entre Igreja e Estado durante o Regime monárquico oitocentista que vigorou no Brasil, tendo como corte espacial e temporal a Cidade do Rio de Janeiro entre 1869 e 1890. O estudo está inserido nas atividades de pesquisa do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Teologia da PUC-Rio, área de concentração Teologia Sistemático-Pastoral, linha de pesquisa Religião e Modernidade, projeto de pesquisa História da Igreja e Modernidade: Permanências e Mudanças. Tem como objetivo principal elucidar questões práticas acerca do Padroado Imperial brasileiro através da abordagem das relações entre poder eclesiástico e poderes civis para provimento e provisionamento da Igreja no então Município da Corte. Sendo assim, debruça-se sobre fontes variadas, desde as oficiais de origem eclesiástica e civil até as da imprensa coeva, a fim de mapear as diferentes ópticas a partir das quais a confessionalidade do Estado e as suas relações com a Igreja em âmbito local - a Cidade do Rio de Janeiro - podem ser percebidas, proporcionando um visão multifacetada dessas relações e contribuindo para aprofundar o debate acadêmico sobre a temática.
