Abstract
Cet article se propose de repenser les limites de la diplomatie et défie les définitions traditionnelles. En s’appuyant sur la taxonomie de divers types de diplomatie des entités non-souveraines formulée par Stéphane Paquin, il analyse le corpus de la correspondance de l’écrivain et de l’éditeur catalan Joan Sales et du traducteur français Bernard Lesfargues. Cet échange a eu lieu entre 1957 et 1977, c’est à dire avant la restauration de l’autonomie en Catalogne. Grâce à cette correspondance, l’article reconstitue la stratégie diplomatique culturelle « autonome » conçue par Joan Sales et mise en œuvre en étroite collaboration avec Bernard Lesfargues. Après la description de l’impact concret de la stratégie de Sales, l’article montre que la gestion des relations internationales n’est pas seulement possible, mais d’une importance vitale pour des mouvements nationaux ou régionalistes qui se trouvent dans des conditions non-démocratiques et/ou défavorables.
