Abstract
Cet article explore le rôle des élites rimouskoises dans la mise en place de la conscription pour le territoire national durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale (1939-1945), remettant en question l’idée d’un rejet uniforme par les Canadiens français. Il détaille la création du « Camp 55 », notamment grâce à l’implication d’acteurs locaux influents. Il révèle que leur engagement repose sur un mélange de patriotisme, d’intérêts économiques et moraux et la conviction des bienfaits de la discipline militaire. Enfin, l’étude montre que ces élites contribuent activement à l’effort de guerre canadien.
