Abstract
Cet article s’intéresse à la politique canadienne à l’endroit des prisonniers de guerre et à l’application de la Convention de Genève de 1929 durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. L’analyse montre que les autorités canadiennes s’efforcèrent de respecter les normes de détention internationales pour les prisonniers ennemis détenus sur son territoire et entretenaient des rapports constructifs avec les autorités « neutre » suisses et les organismes humanitaires venant en aide aux captifs. En déployant cette diplomatie humanitaire, le gouvernement canadien mettait de l’avant son statut de signataire de la Convention de Genève pour ainsi promouvoir sa souveraineté à l’international.
