Abstract
Le multiculturalisme et la laïcité interpellent l’intime et renvoient bien souvent à des convictions profondes dont l’expression peut susciter passions, querelles et violences. C’est notamment le cas au Canada et en France, où tout débat en lien avec ces deux modèles peut parfois sembler impossible tant le sujet est sensible. Il est difficile alors de se faire une opinion documentée. Pour nourrir la réflexion, ce livre propose une comparaison entre le droit du multiculturalisme canadien et le droit de la laïcité française, construite autour de leur prémisse commune, à savoir la nécessité pour un État de reconnaître et de respecter le caractère pluriel de la société, tout en assurant la paix sociale. Sans négliger leurs divergences, cet ouvrage se concentre sur le sens juridique que ces deux droits reconnaissent à ce qui constitue leur socle commun : la liberté, l’égalité et la fraternité.
