Abstract
Cette étude examine le rôle des municipalités dans le développement et l’épanouissement des communautés francophonesen situation minoritaire. La municipalité peut avoir une importance particulière pour les francophones en milieux minoritaires étant donné le rôle croissant des municipalités dans les domaines culturels, récréatifs et socioéconomiques, ainsi que le fait que le gouvernement local est le seul palier du gouvernement où les francophones hors Québec peuvent former la majorité ou représenter un poids démographique important. Ce texte rend compte des principaux constats d’un sondage mené auprès de municipalités d’un bout à l’autre du pays comptant 6 % ou plus de francophones ou étant membre d’une association francophone ou bilingue. Les résultats portent sur les pratiques, ainsi que certains facteurs les expliquant, autour des thèmes du poids des francophones et du pouvoir, les statuts linguistiques, les langues de communication, les langues de services et les espaces francophones et la reconnaissance publique.
