Abstract
This chapter examines impact of pollution on public health and the need for an effective environmental health management. The discussion involve fiscal implications caused by transboundary issues such as air and water pollution on state healthcare system. A case study of Delhi is undertaken in respect of stubble burning and deterioration of Yamuna River. India's federal structure is evaluated to manage challenges and proposes cooperative federalism to enhance inter-state cooperation. A comparative study analyses the United States and Canada to offer lessons for India. At the end, recommendations involve strengthening cooperative federalism, improvement in policy implementation and fostering of sustainable environmental practices to protect public health and promote a pollution free environment.
