Abstract
La tradition irrigue non seulement nos vies, mais également la recherche. Plusieurs disciplines y réfèrent, tels l’histoire, la sociologie, le folklore. Qu’en est-il de cet héritage scientifique dont on peut relever les traces pendant tout le xx e siècle et même jusqu’à aujourd’hui ? En revisitant ces disciplines sous l’angle ethnologique, on constate, dans leurs études, que la tradition a emprunté diverses trajectoires parfois inattendues, souvent discutables. Symbole de la Folk Society , icône de l’ethnicité canadienne-française, compagne indissociable du « passé honteux », frein à la modernité, elle aura été, de plus, esthétisée à des fins de conformité avec certaines approches scientifiques. Ces trajectoires excentrées méritent qu’on s’y attarde ; elles ont un impact non négligeable sur la tradition elle-même, sur ceux et celles qui la portent et sur les orientations de la recherche.
