Abstract
À Ville-Marie en 1904, les Missionnaires Oblats de Marie-Immaculée annoncent le projet d’ériger une grotte à la mémoire de Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes. La première célébration de la fête de l’Assomption a lieu en 1905. Typique, elle comprend un rassemblement à l’église du village, la formation des pèlerins en procession qui se rendent à la grotte en récitant le chapelet et en chantant des cantiques. La grotte a rapidement attiré les gens du Témiscamingue tant du Québec que de l’Ontario. Riche d’histoire, depuis 120 ans, le site témoigne de pratiques artisanales par sa construction, religieuses par ses célébrations, et sociales par les banquets, pique-niques et autres activités communautaires qui ont lieu sur le site.
