Abstract
Jugular venous pressure (JVP) assessment is crucial for the bedside evaluation of intravascular volume.However, JVP evaluation is often limited by poor visualization and has a weak correlation with central venous pressure (CVP).We describe the "McGill JVP Approach," a novel head-of-the-bed approach.We demonstrated the application of this approach in two contrasting cases-one with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and one euvolemic volunteer.Evaluation of JVP at the head of the bed facilitates the determination of the highest visible point of the blood column.This simple refinement of a fundamental clinical skill may enhance accuracy in estimating CVP.
