A Wideband Dual Polarized Reconfigurable Unit Cell for Transmitarrays at Ku-Band

Abstract
In this paper, a wideband dual-polarized 1-bit unit cell is proposed for transmitarrays. The structure incorportes a square patch as the receiver (<tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{R x}$</tex>) element and a magneto-electric (ME) dipole as the transmitter. Both polarizations are controlled using a single DC bias line, significantly reducing the complexity of the DC bias and control circuit design. Simulation results demonstrate a transmission loss of less than 2 dB across the entire <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$11.8-15.8 \text{GHz}$</tex> frequency range for both polarizations, with a phase difference of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$180^{\circ} \pm 2^{\circ}$</tex> between the two states over the full frequency range. The proposed unit cell was integrated into a transmitarray, and its beam-scanning capability was validated for both polarizations, achieving a 1-dB gain bandwidth within the <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$12.5-15.5 \text{GHz}$</tex> frequency range.
