Hybrid 3D-Printed Lens with $360^{\circ}$ Beam-Steering for UAV Search and Rescue and Advanced 5G Communication

Abstract
This paper presents two novel hybrid antenna systems for UAV-assisted communication networks, combining a 3D-printed cylindrical lens with a monopole dielectric resonator antenna (MDRA). The first system achieves dual-pattern coverage with high-gain omnidirectional radiation in the azimuth plane and conical coverage for the lower hemisphere, ensuring seamless device-to-device (D2D) and UAV-to-base-station (D2B) communication. The second system introduces a high-gain pencil beam with 360° beam-steering capability enabled by a mechanical rotary mechanism, maintaining constant gain and low side lobe levels. Simulation results at 28 GHz demonstrate the superior performance of both systems, addressing the limitations of traditional phased arrays and planar transmitarrays. These designs offer a reliable and efficient solution for UAV-assisted search and rescue (SAR) missions and other dynamic communication applications.
