Abstract
Leisure is often defined as a foundational component of western society. This includes gardening activities which have many physical and mental health benefits; however, some people fail to consider the negative impacts of these activities (e.g. intensive resource use, climate change, biodiversity loss, and alienation from the non-human world). In this paper, we outline the replacement of lawns with pollinator gardens as one avenue to reducing biodiversity loss and enacting multispecies justice in urban places. Through a multispecies leisure justice lens, we outline the potential entanglements between some human and nonhuman (i.e. insects) actors in garden environments in North America in the early twenty-first century.
