Rituales de terminación en Tikal: una reevaluación a partir del caso de Naachtun y de una perspectiva macrorregional (350 a. e. c.-1150 e. c.)

Durante décadas, la ausencia de rituales de terminación identificados en Tikal constituyó una anomalía en la arqueología maya, a pesar de la abundancia de depósitos especiales documentados en el sitio. Este artículo cuestiona tal percepción mediante una reevaluación crítica de los archivos del Penn Museum y de los informes de los proyectos arqueológicos posteriores. Con base en los hallazgos recientes en Naachtun, donde se han identificado protocolos complejos de clausura, se propone un marco comparativo macrorregional que abarca 15 capitales mayas y sus sitios satélites, entre el Preclásico Tardío y el inicio del Posclásico. El análisis demuestra que Tikal no es una excepción, sino un ejemplo particular-mente rico de prácticas rituales multimodales de terminación: fosas intrusivas, espar-cimientos, depósitos guardianes, fuegos rituales y mutilaciones arquitectónicas. Se identificaron 286 posibles depósitos terminales y post-abandono, con una distribución cronológica y espacial coherente con las secuencias de abandono progresivo del sitio. Esta sistematización revela patrones rituales recurrentes y refuerza la hipótesis de ca-denas operativas estructuradas para cerrar simbólicamente y físicamente los espacios, tanto en complejos cívico-ceremoniales como en grupos residenciales. El estudio plantea además cuestiones fundamentales sobre la intención de estos gestos rituales: ¿neutralización de depósitos anteriores? ¿Deseo de impedir la reo-cupación del lugar? ¿Rituales de regeneración? En ausencia de fuentes epigráficas o iconográficas directas, se vuelve clave la comparación de varios corpus exhaustivos de sitios diferentes. Esta investigación contribuye así a completar las categorías ar-queológicas tradicionales y a integrar Tikal plenamente dentro de los modelos rituales terminales panregionales del Área Maya.
