First report of Megachile circumcincta (Kirby, 1802) (Hymenoptera: Megachilidae) in Nunavik, Québec

Abstract
The genus *Megachile* encompasses approximately 1478 living species of mason and leaf cutting bees – also known as dauber bees – around the world (Michener, 2007; Pitts-Singer & Cane, 2010; Wedman et al., 2009). Many of said dauber and leafcutter bees correspond to Michener’s (2007) groups 2 and 1 of *Megachile*. Leaf cutting behaviour is present in about 870 of modern *Megachile* species, whereas the remaining species will rather use masticated leaves, plant trichomes, mud and resin as materials for nest building (Wedman et al., 2009). They usually nest within already existing cavities or excavate their own within plant stems and rotting wood. These bees can be easily sampled using insect hotels, which has allowed for extensive studies on their biology (Sheffield et al., 2011). Species of the genus is also known to play an important role in crop pollination. The availability of suitable nesting sites and materials, as well as a sufficient and satisfactory food plants for pollen and nectar are the most influential criteria affecting *Megachile* diversity, abundance and fecundity within a given area (Sheffield et al., 2011). Forty-four species of *Megachile* can be found in Canada and Alaska (Sheffield, 2025). One species, *Megachile circumcincta* (Kirby 1802) (syn.*Megachile giliae* Cockerell (1906)), has 83 registered occurrences in Canada on the GBIF database, as of April 2025 (GBIF, 2025). Its distribution is Holarctic, as it is also found in northern Eurasia (Boranski et al., 2019; Byvaltsev et al., 2018). To date, the specimens recorded in Canada originated mostly from the Yukon and the Northwest Territories. *Megachile circumcincta* is a ground dwelling species, also establishing nests in existing cavities in wood or in-between rocks (Praz, 2017; Sheffield et al., 2011).
