Iris recognition is an extremely important research topic in computer vision. In this paper, we propose a new method for iris recognition. We selectively reduce noise from the iris images with denoising convolutional neural networks (DnCNN) and crop the iris regions by detecting outer circles in the iris images. Without selectively denoising, we may fail to detect iris regions correctly, which is undesirable. We augment the iris images by smoothing and rotating the iris images many times. We train our CNNs with the augmented iris images and then classify the unknown iris images to known classes. Experiments demonstrate that our new method achieves very high recognition rates even when random noise is introduced to the dataset for iris recognition.
