Abstract
L’article explore les possibilités herméneutiques offertes par la philosophie moderne pour penser la question de la diversité religieuse. Comment la philosophie moderne accueille-t-elle, non pas seulement la figure chrétienne de la religion, mais la pluralité religieuse ? Privilégiant la première modernité, selon une méthode exploratoire ayant vocation à servir d’essai en la matière, l’article se penche sur certains textes de Descartes et de Pascal qui se réfèrent au pluralisme religieux, avec pour enjeu d’interpréter les significations philosophico-théologiques de ces références. Du côté de Descartes, on s’appuie sur la théorie de la foi exposée dans les Méditations métaphysiques , ainsi que sur l’ Entretien avec Burman , ces deux textes fournissant des indices quant à la prise en compte des autres religions. Du côté de Pascal, on envisage le socle anthropologique de la vraie religion dans les Pensées , puis l’antijudaïsme structurel véhiculé par le schème des figuratifs, avant de considérer le thème de l’abscondité de Dieu. In fine , l’enjeu consiste à faire ressortir l’opérativité de concepts issus de la philosophie moderne pour penser une ouverture à la diversité religieuse.
