Abstract
This article compares the elaborate structures of Ovid's Metamorphoses and Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, arguing that the skills required to read one can be transferred to the other. The Sandman is indebted to many earlier sources, including Ovid. Detailed examples from The Sandman, including floral metamorphoses of blood and the connections between ravens and 1970s horror comics, illuminate the poetic practice of Ovid in his epic.
