Objectif : Présenter et évaluer la faisabilité d’offrir aux assistants ou aux assistantes techniques aux soins de la santé un programme de formation local conçu et offert par le personnel du Centre hospitalier universitaire (CHU) de Québec–Université Laval. Description de la problématique : La pénurie d’assistants techniques en pharmacie est un problème d’actualité dans les départements de pharmacie de nombreux établissements au Québec, dont le CHU de Québec–Université Laval. Le diplôme d’études professionnelles en assistance technique en pharmacie n’attire pas suffisamment d’étudiants dans la grande région de Québec pour pourvoir les postes vacants. De surcroît, le contenu de ce programme ne cible pas spécifiquement la pratique en établissement de santé. Résolution de la problématique : L’équipe de gestion du Département de pharmacie du CHU de Québec–Université Laval a été sollicitée pour mieux comprendre les besoins actuels et les tâches des assistants techniques en pharmacie. Un sondage auprès des gestionnaires d’autres établissements a permis d’explorer les formations en emploi existantes. Une analyse approfondie des programmes de formation existants a été effectuée, notamment des plans de cours du programme menant au diplôme d’études professionnelles en assistance technique en pharmacie d’un centre de formation professionnelle. Conclusion : Nos travaux mettent en évidence qu’il s’agit d’une initiative originale, seulement un des établissements de santé questionnés offrant une formation interne destinée à des employés de soutien sans diplôme d’études professionnelles en assistance technique en pharmacie. Après analyse des formations offertes, nous avons établi la durée totale de notre formation à 870 heures. Grâce à nos recherches, nous avons élaboré des plans de cours détaillés arrimés aux besoins du CHU de Québec–Université Laval. Abstract Objective: To present and assess the feasibility of offering healthcare technical assistants a locally developed training program designed and delivered by the Centre hospitalier universitaire (CHU) de Québec–Université Laval staff. Problem Description: The shortage of pharmacy technical assistants is a current issue in pharmacy departments across many institutions in Québec, including the CHU de Québec–Université Laval. The pharmacy technical assistance diploma does not attract enough students in the greater Québec City area to fill vacant positions. Furthermore, the content of this program does not specifically target healthcare institutions practice. Problem Resolution: The CHU de Québec–Université Laval Pharmacy Department management team was consulted to better understand the current needs and tasks of pharmacy technical assistants. A survey of managers from other institutions was conducted to explore existing training programs. An in-depth analysis of current training programs was carried out, including course content leading to a pharmacy technical assistance diploma from a professional formation center. Conclusion: Our work highlights that this is an original initiative, with only one of the surveyed healthcare institutions offering internal training to support staff without a pharmacy technical assistance diploma. After analyzing the available training programs, we established the total duration of our training at 870 hours.Thanks to our research, we developed detailed course plans aligned with the needs of CHU de Québec–Université Laval.
