Abstract
An analysis of the collections of amphora stamps from rural settlements in the Crimean Azov region, dating from the 4th to the 1st centuries BCE, indicates that the import of Kos products into this region began in the mid-4th century BCE. The first stamped amphorae appear in the area during the last quarter of this century. A comparative study of stamp found at the sites dating to the mid-4th – early (mid) 3rd century BCE and from fortified settlements established around 280–250 BCE reveals a typological evolution in the legend of the stamps. The earlier stamps feature abbreviated names and monograms, while later stamps contain full names carved with preserved case endings. This transition suggests a chronological shift in amphora stamping practices, likely occurring around the 270s BCE.
