Abstract
Les changements apportés au questionnaire depuis 1971 et une importante migration différentielle selon la langue ont compromis la comparabilité des données des recensements successifs sur les transferts linguistiques entre l'anglais et le français dans la majeure partie du Québec. Dans les deux régions les moins touchées par ces difficultés, la dynamique de l'assimilation entre l'anglais; et le français semble en 199 1, en dépit des politiques linguistiques favorables au français, jouer au profit de l'anglais autant sinon plus qu'en 1971. Cette domination de l'anglais se poursuit malgré une hausse sensible du poids relatif de la population francophone et un rétrécissemenlt marqué de l'écart entre la connaissance de l'anglais et celle du français dans les régions étudiées.
