Abstract
À l'aide d'une cohorte hypothétique soumise à un modèle societal méritocratique dynamique, l'auteur étudie l'influence sur la mobilité sociale du développement du taux de scolarisation et de la réduction des inégalités devant l'enseignement, toute autre chose demeurant égale par ailleurs. Trois classes sociales sont hypothétiquement distinguées, tandis qu'elles se distribuent en six niveaux d'éducation. L'auteur conclut à une dégradation brutale de la structure des chances associées aux niveaux scolaires moyens, dégradation qui se répercute aux niveaux inférieurs. Ainsi, la " démocratisation " de l'accès aux niveaux supérieurs de l'enseignement est-elle impuissante à modifier la structure de mobilité.
