Abstract
En 1968, le Portugal était encore aux prises avec la dictature. Toutefois, depuis la fin des années 50, le régime faisait l'objet de contestations de plus en plus vives, notamment de la part de certains catholiques. En plus de remettre en question la politique de l'État Nouveau, ces derniers critiquaient l'attitude collaborante de la hiérarchie catholique portugaise vis-à-vis de l'État Nouveau. C'est donc à la lumière de ce contexte politico-religieux si particulier que cet article analyse le regard porté par la presse catholique portugaise sur les événements de mai 68. Les quotidiens, en constante syntonie avec le régime, dénigraient l'action des grévistes alors que les journaux dissidents, publiés dans la clandestinité pour échapper à la censure, étaient les porte-voix des libertés de Mai dont la principale conséquence fut l'intensification de la lutte politique des catholiques dits “progressistes”.
