Abstract
Ten European cities are testing a fleet of hydrogen fuel cell powered transit buses in the first continent wide attempt to introduce fuel cell powered passenger transit since limited city trial in Chicago, Palm Springs and Vancouver in 1999-2001. The attempt is part of the Clean Urban Transport for Europe (CUTE) program that has passengers traveling the streets of London, Madrid, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Hamburg,Stuttgart, Luxembourg, Porto, Stockholm and Rejkavik. This 2 year test program (2003-2005) is being funded partially by the European Commission that contributes 18.5 Euro. An additional 2.% million Euro was provided by the EC toward the ECTOS (Ecological City Transport System) in Iceland. The goal of the program is to test the vehicles' engineering and the necessary refueling infrastructure, as well as the public acceptance of the technology.
