Abstract
Canadian National Railway (CN) is considered one of the best performing of the seven North America's Class I railroads. CN had its revolution in the 1990s: new management, privatization, strategic acquisitions, leading edge Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), North America's first truly scheduled service, and the industry's lowest operating ratio. This article looks at the company's goal of being the finest transportation system on the continent by increasing efficiencies, greater fleet modernization and standardization. Additional evolutionary strategies include groundbreaking ITS tools, aggressive engineering, and advanced rail traffic control.
