Abstract

Control center operators fulfil a critical role in the delivery of transit services with today's continued trend towards automated driverless transit systems. This paper describes a systems engineering approach that helps define the requirements of the new control center workstations. Two case studies, the Vancouver SkyTrain extension and the JFK International Airport AIRTRAIN, are presented as examples of an approach that was used to capture the functionality of and necessary enhancements to the existing control centers. These examples offer many lessons for the successful delivery of transit systems.
