Abstract
This article describes Frontier Airlines' efforts to distinguish itself among the low-cost carriers such as Ted (United Airlines' low-cost operation) and Southwest, which also operate out of its Denver hub. One approach is to brand each plane with a different animal, indigenous to the regions served. Another is to introduce slightly more generous no-frills perks, such as movie channels and gourmet coffee, and the ability to pay for additional snacks and drinks via credit card. Generously proportioned seats are another draw. Mexican routes have contributed to recent growth, with eight Mexican destinations from 11 U.S. cities. There are also new routes to Canada. The last quarter of 2006 was difficult, but officials are optimistic that revenues and profits will improve.
