Abstract
The World Speed Survey 2001 is presented. Over 20 countries operate passenger train services at over 120 km/h and 10 countries exceed 150 km/h. Japan remains at the top with a speed of 261 km/h for its 15 Nozomi service between Hiroshima and Kokura. Japan is followed by France, Spain, Germany, UK, Sweden, USA, Italy, Finland and China. Trains are operated at 120-150 km/h in Denmark, Canada, Norway, Iran, Hungary, Russia, Israel, Morocco, Poland, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia. Changes between the 1999 and 2001 surveys are discussed.
