Abstract
LE COISLepage a bien compris que la société québécoise traditionnelle, de morale catholique, opposait les enfants et le couple, qui devait s'effacer pour que la procréation ait lieu.Il n'est pas surprenant, donc, que le ressac ait emporté l'enfance, comme le montre Sous-sol.L'enfant du film de Pierre Gang est sans cesse mis de côté pour que sa mère monoparentale puisse avoir des amants.Il grandit entre l'ambivalence de sa mère et l'hostilité de ses pères de remplacement.De ce portrait sombre du couple, unilatéralement féminin, et de celui de l'homme, désespérément enfermé dans ses fantaisies (voir Post Mortem et La Comtesse de Baton Rouge de Forcier, où un jeune homme s'amourache d'une femme à barbe, l'inaccessible androgyne), émergent quelquefois des éclairs d'espoir.Parfois, il s'agit de magie, de prestidigitation : dans La Vie après l'amour, de Gabriel Pelletier, Michel Côté et Sylvie Léonard oublient leurs différends sans raison apparente.Parfois, l'homme se réveille et devient un être humain doté de la capacité de parler de ses émotions, d'interagir avec la femme; mais comme Pierre qui trop criait au loup, l'homme perd souvent sa chance parce que la femme ne l'écoute plus.À la fin d'un Un 32 août sur Terre, Pascale Bussières se rend finalement compte que son meilleur ami l'aime.Mais quand elle se décide à l'aimer, il est trop tard : une bagarre l'a laissé dans le coma.
