Abstract
Edmonton International Airport is enjoying success as one of the fastest growing Canadian airports, with more than 3,000 acres of undeveloped land adjacent to its facility, which is 7,000 acres in size. Passenger and cargo traffic have been growing at 10 percent or more annually, in the wake of a modernization program that started in 1998. The goal was to reach 5.5 million passengers by 2015, but it has already reached 5 million with 5.5 million expected by 2007. Thirteen destinations have been added in the last 12 months, including a service on Air Canada to London Heathrow. North America’s northernmost city is located in a booming energy market with the growth in exploitation of the region’s oil sand deposits. The article describes other aspects of the airport operations, including carriers, landing fees and terminals.
