Abstract
This annual world airline report for 2005 begins with the observation that while airlines in most parts of the world are overcoming the high cost of fuel, North American airlines, except for Air Canada, AirTran, and Southwest Airlines, are mostly operating with losses. Possible explanations for this trend include the series of events since 2000, high labor costs, and a higher market penetration of low cost carriers (LCCs) in the U.S. This annual report is presented according to the following categories: 1) In the World Airline Data section: The World's Leading Low-Cost Carriers; Global Airline Alliances; The World's Top 25 Airlines; World Airline Financial Results by Carrier; World Airline Traffic Results by Carrier; and the World's Top 50 Airports; 2) In the Airline Reports by Region section: Africa/Middle East; Asia/Pacific; Canada; Europe; Latin America/Caribbean; North America; and, 3) In the World Airline Fleets section: World Fleet Summary; and World Airline Fleets by Carrier.
