Plus de mille ponts couverts ont ete batis sur le territoire quebecois depuis le debut de la colonisation. Seuls 84 de ces ouvrages entierement faits de bois ont pu surmonter les intemperies, les inondations, les glaces, les incendies et l'usure. Le plus vieux date de 1861 et le plus jeune existant encore fut construit en 1955 en Abitibi. Ces ponts typiques racontent a leur maniere une page de notre histoire, tout comme nos maisons ancestrales, nos moulins et nos vieilles eglises. Leur elegance temoigne de l'importance qu'accordaient nos ancetres a l'aspect esthetique de ce qu'ils construisaient. (A)
