Abstract
Several projects in Minnesota use porous asphalt, with or without dense-graded asphalt pavements, to manage storm water. A typical porous pavement cross section is composed of porous or dense-graded asphalt pavement installed over a choker coarse, large stone aggregate reservoir, and a non-woven geotextile. Every site is unique due to soil characteristics, local topography, climate conditions as well as the use of the facility -- whether it is a parking lot, low-volume road, or tennis court. The porous asphalt pavement at the Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District office building in Little Canada, Minn., is described in detail, including costs, cleaning, and aging of the asphalt.
