Abstract
Conscientious maintenance and the use of top-grade materials still did not stop wear and degradation from interfering with the BC South Line, an 80-mgt line through the Rockies in Western Canada. Among the solutions are: using cleaner, harder rail steels, a corrective grinding program and new profile designs. Also helpful was improving control and use of lubrications.
