Transport Canada selected the Union Pearson AirLink Group (UPAG) in November 2003 to finance, design, construct, operate, and maintain a rail link between Toronto's Union station, which is used daily by 200,000 people, and Lester B. Pearson International Airport which handles about 80,000 passengers a day. It is hoped that the rail link will eliminate up to1.5 million car journeys a year. The Air Rail Link, also known as Blue22, will have a 22 minute travel time, the trains will operate at 15 minute intervals for most of the day with a 20 minute frequency during off peak hours and in the evening, and the service will be provided 365 days a year.
