Abstract
As environmentally conscious transit agencies are comparing the costs and benefits of alternate power sources, Biodiesel, a combustible produced from soybeans and other elements, is receiving much attention. While some agencies are considering blending Biodiesel with conventional diesel, others, such as Tri-Rail in Miami, are conducting field tests using 100% Biodiesel. Calgary Transit has been using green power, the electric-power equivalent of Biodiesel, to power its C- Train since 2003. Wind turbines from a wind farm two hours southwest of Calgary provide the power in this successful and emission-free Ride the Wind program.
