Abstract
Plans to extend Calgary's C-Train light rail network in Canada with a 2.7 km extension and new station at Dalhousie are described. The existing network carries 30 million passengers a year on a 32 km network with 33 stations. The history of the network is outlined. The three-arm network is operated as two lines and fare collection is by proof-of-payment. Further extensions are included in Calgary Transit's 20-year strategic plan. These include extensions between Fish Creek-Lacombe to Somerset-Brindlewood Station and Whitehorn to McKnight Westwinds. Calgary Transit is also developing plans for a new Southest line serving Ogden, Douglasdale, McKenzie Towne and Cranston. Calgary has used a fleet of Duewag U2 articulated vehicles and Siemens Transportation Systems SE160s. The cars are equipped for operation in cold climates. Plans for improvements to the city centre transit corridor are outlined.
