Abstract
The treatise Desiderio tuo, fili karissime from the turn of the thirteenth to the fourteenth centuries (Rome, Biblioteca Vaticana, Barb. Lat. 283, fol. 37r-42v) is unusually important for our present understanding of the medieval notion of musica mundana. The treatise contradicts the received idea of a waning of musica mundana during the late Middle Ages, and attests to the perennial medieval interest in astrology’s relation to music, as much in the learned circles of Latinity as in popular daily life. Two themes run throughout, connected to magic : secret knowledge and dream revelation.
